The Saskatchewan Roughriders are playing for the championship of the Canadian Football League Nov 28! Since I left “The Skatch” I’ve become even more of a fan than I was before. Call it nostalgia for home.
Before I go over to watch the game with a bunch of other Saskatchewan expat friends, I’m subbing for the Sunday morning spin class one last time this month. I’ve made this special playlist. These songs are either a) Roughrider songs, b) Saskatchewan artists, c) songs about Saskatchewan or d) songs I associate with watching the game at Taylor Field in Regina.
- Paint the Whole World Green — Jason Plumb
- Rider Pride — Saskatchewan Roughrider theme song (well one of them anyway)
- Rock & Roll Part 2 — Gary Glitter (doesn’t every stadium/rink play this?)
- Arrows — Rah Rah (my son went to high school with the band members apparently)
- Voodoo Thing — Colin James
- She Ain’t Pretty — Northern Pikes
- My Moon My Man — Feist (apparently she lived in the Skatch for a while)
- Snow White — Streetheart
- Priscilla Blues — Rusty Augers (saw them at O’Hanlon’s, my kids’ watering hole in downtown Regina, a few years ago)
- The Last Saskatchewan Pirate — Arrogant Worms (They play this one at half time every home game. The entire stadium sings along.)
- Seismos — Arkadia (a Canadian/Greek band from Regina. Shout-out to my friend and former colleague Stephan Lentzos who writes their songs)
- Buckin’ at the Buckin’ Bar — Rusty Augers
- Raised on Robbery — Joni Mitchell
- Runnin’ Back to Saskatoon — Guess Who
- Breaking Hearts — Rah Rah
- We Are the Champions — Queen
- Green Is the Colour — Official Roughrider song
- A Case of You — kd lang (Written by Joni Mitchell)
- Wood River — Connie Kaldor
Feist actually grew up in Regina. She went to Usher or Knoll I believe.
